Conductance fluctuations in systems with random-magnetic-field scattering.

چکیده

The perturbation-theory study of universal conductance fluctuations is generalized to systems with electron scattering in a static random magnetic field. Our calculation confirms the intuitive expectation that the amplitude of Quctuations coincides with the universal value typical for the unitary random-scattering ensemble. An application of this result to micrometer-size wires with the two-dlmensional electron liquid near 611ing factor v = 1/2q allows us to predict aperiodic Coulomb-type oscillations in this system beyond the Coulomb-blockade regime, which would manifest a correspondence between the Aharonov-Bohm and Aharonov-Casher efFects specific to composite fermions.

Conductance distribution in two-dimensional localized systems with and without magnetic fields

We have obtained the universal conductance distribution of two-dimensional disordered systems in the strongly localized limit. This distribution is directly related to the Tracy-Widom distribution, which has recently appeared in many different problems. We first map a forward scattering paths model into a problem of directed random polymers previously solved. We show numerically that the same d...

Weak localization and conductance fluctuations in a quantum dot with parallel magnetic field and spin-orbit scattering

In the presence of both spin-orbit scattering and a magnetic field the conductance of a chaotic GaAs quantum dot displays quite a rich behavior. Using a Hamiltonian derived by Aleiner and Fal’ko [Phys. Rev. Lett. 87, 256801 (2001)] we calculate the weak localization correction and the covariance of the conductance, as a function of parallel and perpendicular magnetic field and spin-orbit coupli...

Conductance Fluctuations in Graphene Systems: the Relevance of Classical Dynamics

Conductance fluctuations associated with transport through quantum-dot systems are currently understood to depend on the nature of the corresponding classical dynamics, i.e., integrable or chaotic. However, we find that in graphene quantum-dot systems, when a magnetic field is present, signatures of classical dynamics can disappear and universal scaling behaviour emerge. In particular, as the F...

Magnetotransport in a chaotic scattering cavity with tunable electron density

We have measured the resistance versus magnetic field and Fermi energy for two stadium-shaped cavities in which chaotic scattering is expected. We fit the power spectra of the magnetoresistance fluctuations to semiclassical chaotic scattering theory and find a characteristic field which scales with cavity dimensions as predicted by classical simulations. Measurements of conductance versus Fermi...

Quantum chaotic scattering in graphene systems in the absence of invariant classical dynamics.

Quantum chaotic scattering is referred to as the study of quantum behaviors of open Hamiltonian systems that exhibit transient chaos in the classical limit. Traditionally a central issue in this field is how the elements of the scattering matrix or their functions fluctuate as a system parameter, e.g., the electron Fermi energy, is changed. A tacit hypothesis underlying previous works was that ...
